How TNEB slabs actually work: TN domestic billing is telescopic — each rate applies only to the units that fall inside that band, not your whole usage. So for 350 units, you don't pay the 201–400 rate on all 350 units, only on the units from 201 to 350; the units below that are charged at their own (lower or free) band rates. This calculator shows energy charges only — your real bill may add a small fixed charge and Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA), so it can differ slightly.
Which scheme applies to you: if your bimonthly consumption is 500 units or less, TANGEDCO now gives the first 200 units free (May 2026 order) instead of the earlier 100. If you cross 500 units, the bill reverts to the old structure with only 100 free units and steeper slabs above that. Rates for the 201–500 band under the new scheme are TNEB's estimated carry-over until they issue the final notified table.
